Who’s behind powerESL?

Hi, I’m Mike :)

Although I was born and raised in the northeastern United States, I’ve lived in Ireland, Australia, the UK, Italy, and Germany. My daily life flows between different languages and cultures. With family members who speak English as a second language, I understand firsthand what it’s like to be surrounded by conversations that don’t always translate perfectly.

powerESL isn’t just my work; it’s something that I’m inspired to do.

Through 7,500+ coaching sessions with nearly 2,000 people from over 40 countries, I’ve seen the same challenge again and again: it’s not a lack of vocabulary or grammar knowledge that holds people back; it’s other barriers – like not knowing what to say and how to say it depending on who they’re speaking with, why they’re speaking with them and where – that prevent them from expressing themselves fully.

I work with students and professionals who feel their ideas sound weaker—even primitive—in English compared to their native language. I coach people who struggle to connect language with emotion, especially in English. I help creative thinkers bring the same nuance and depth to their English that they have in their native language. And sometimes, English even unlocks aspects of their personality they didn’t know existed.

In other words, I help people bring their true voice to English. powerESL doesn’t focus on memorizing rules or perfecting an accent. It’s about lowering the obstacles between what you think and what you say.
